Showing He’s Got Licks by Besting Two Other Famous Race Car Drivers to Take Home First Win of Season at Richmond Nets Kyle Busch First Win of 2012

Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart, and notably Kevin Harvick were amongst the famous race car drivers trying to outdo Kyle Busch at the Richmond Motor Speedway last weekend for the Capital City 400. A late race caution that saw an early start by Carl Edwards shot him to the back of the pack, and not on the inside as leader. Poor timing in the pit lane by other drivers, after officials flagged a caution for a bottle being on the short track, can be credited as well. In the end, however, Kyle Busch stayed in contention all day long. His pit crew demonstrated their quick thinking, and got him out faster than any other driver, enabling him to take the lead and keep it all the way to the finish line, marking his fourth win at this track, and his first Sprint Cup win of 2012.

Carl Edwards Reflected on Confusion of Late Race Restart, Being Back Flagged

“It takes a little bit to explain,” Edwards said to the press following the race regarding the confusion that ensued when he flopped a restart and ended up being back flagged. “NASCAR told me about three seconds before the start that I was the leader. I got the best start I could. Tony spun his tires. I don’t think it’s right. I don’t agree with it, but before I get myself in trouble, I’d like to go talk to them (NASCAR officials).”

In the latest Sprint Cup standings, Kyle Busch has climbed to the eleventh slot, up two from the week prior. Greg Biffle continues to dominate as we enter week 10.

WATCH: Recap on Richmond (ESPN)

It was all about Earnhardt Jr. and Tony Stewart until a 13-lap restart from debris on the track offered Kyle Busch the breathing room he required to take over the lead. He would not let it up and went on to win. ESPN recaps this week of action as three famous race car drivers ran neck-in-neck. In the end, there could only be one winner, however. This video will get you all caught up to date.

Famous Race Car Drivers, Busch Bros., Win at Same Track on Same Weekend for Wild NASCAR Double Header

Two very famous race car drivers are in the spotlight this weekend: Kurt Busch and his younger brother Kyle Busch. Kurt was driving his brother’s car this past weekend at the Nationwide double header in Richmond. What neither of them ever expected was that they would set a record for two brothers winning on the same track in different classes of NASCAR … on the same weekend.

”I’ve driven for guys like (Roger) Penske and (Jack) Roush, but when you’re driving for a guy named Busch, you’ve got to be on it, and I was glad to be able to deliver,” Kurt Busch said of trying to fill the shoes as brothers and famous race car drivers while living up to the prodigious family name. ”It’s great to get to Victory Lane as a family.”

With fewer than 30 laps remaining in the race, Denny Hamlin made his attempt on Busch’s car. Busch saw him striving to be in contention and the finish was on. As both cars careened around the track neck-in-neck, there could only be one that notched the win. This time it was Kurt’s. Now he and his brother are basking in the glory of victory, and deservedly so, after setting a record for winning at this track on the same weekend.

Our hats off to the Busch brothers for a well earned Victory Lane lap.

Famous race car drivers, the Busch brothers, will head to Talladega next week for Nationwide and Sprint Cup. Take a look at the Nationwide schedule, so you can tune in for the action.

WATCH: Post Race Press Conference with Busch Bros.

This past weekend was truly one for the record books folks. After winning the race for Nationwide, Kurt Busch joined his brother for a weekend press conference where things got a little bit teary really quickly. Both drivers were beyond themselves after learning that they set a new record. This press conference gives you an inside look at how the levity of this type of win plays out emotionally in NASCAR drivers.

James Buescher Proving that 22-Year-Olds CAN Contend as Race Car Drivers in NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series

While we have to admit that as far as action and consistency goes, the World Camping Truck Series is paled by comparison to the Sprint Cup or Nationwide events. Its fan base is steadily growing, but there are fewer races, fewer drivers and fewer sponsors; and fewer fans as a result.

This does not mean that these races are not important, however. For James Buescher, he has proven that after 5 years of racing, and 76 attempts, he’s finally got the licks. Last Saturday, he managed to pass up Brad Keselowski with only 10 laps remaining in the race, carving out his first victory in this series and earning a second place slot in the standings.

Done finishing in second place.

“I can’t even count the number of times we finished second,” Buescher expressed to the media following his first career win. “We’ve had a lot of second-place finishes, but we finally got the win.”

Key Stats on James Buescher

  • 22-years-old
  • Raced for 5 years in Camping
  • Competed in 76 races
  • 20 top-5 finishes
  • 35 top-10 finishes
  • 3 poles earned
  • 11,398 laps completed
  • 425 laps led
  • $1.3-million in earnings
  • First win of career at Kansas last weekend

Denny Hamlin Proving He’s Still a Contending Race Car Driver in NASCAR by Winning STP 400

Martin Truex Jr. has got to be frustrated at how the events played out this past weekend at Kansas Speedway. After setting a race-high 173 laps of racing, everyone thought he would take home the race. But late in the race, as the sun hit the track in full force, Denny Hamlin came up from behind and stole the lead away during the final laps. It also sets a new record for his No. 11 Toyota, which now has 199 wins under its hood.

“I guess if we can be this frustrated with second, it tells you how close we are as a team,” said Truex, who had to head home with a second place finish. “The race car was really good. I’m just not really sure what to think about that last set of tires. I was just wrecking-loose that last set.”

Key Stats on Hamlin:

  • Races for Joe Gibbs
  • 115 finishes in top-10
  • 96 finishes in top-5
  • Average finish of 13.9
  • 19 career wins

ESPN takes you inside with a one-on-one interview with the race car driver that turned heads and held off Truex Jr. for a big win last week at Kansas.

Greg Biffle a My Race Car Driver to Watch After Winning the Samsung Mobile 500 & Climbing Atop the Sprint Cup Standings Following Easter NASCAR Break

Just ask Jimmie Johnson how it feels to lose, and he can tell you it’s no fun. Johnson had to have rightfully thought he had the win shored up last weekend  in Texas. And then along comes the thorn in his heal – or the screw in his tire if you will – Greg Biffle, who overtakes him late in the race during the Samsung Mobile 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway to earn his 17th career victory. For Johnson, who led the race for 134 laps, it must have felt like a surefire win was ripped away from him. During the final lap, he failed overtake Biffle to get his lead back, nailed a wall, and ended up finishing in second place…about three seconds behind. For Biffle, the My Race Car Driver to watch this year – and our prediction for being in the Chase later – it marks 17 career victories.

His Roush Fenway Racing team is elated as well. They now have two drivers sitting pretty in first and in second places in the Sprint Cup. They’ve snapped their 49-race losing streak (all things considered, it really did not matter all that much considering they are in the top two spots). And they enter week 8 as the most dominant team in years in NASCAR.

The Wind Played a Factor in Samsung Mobile 500, Says Biffle

“The wind was a huge factor,” Biffle said to the press on a post race conference regarding his fifth top-five finish and first win this year. “The wind was blowing you all over the place. I was swatting flies all night long. The wind was blowing the car back and forth and over … that could be a factor in why there was no accidents. You would think that would cause one. Well, it made it so you couldn’t really race side by side with a guy.”

Greg Biffle heads to week 8 of NASCAR action in Kansas after coming off an impressive victory at Texas, while overtaking Jimmie Johnson. Now he is sitting pretty at 273 points as the undisputed leader in the ESPN Sprint Cup Standings. Fellow Roush Fenway Racing driver and teammate, Matt Kenseth, is tied for second with Dale Earnhardt JR. at 253 points apiece.

Right from when he first arrived on the scene, Schumacher was turning heads for all of the right reasons. Join us today as we recant a brief timelines and celebrate our affinity for this championship Formula One driver.

  • 1991 – Schumacher arrives on the scene at the Jordan at Spa in 1991, his F1 pro debut. The little known rookie from the Mercedes sports car team shocked the world of pro racing by posting an impressive 7th place on the one of the most challenging grids.

  • 1995 – Schumacher starts out slow, and then is virtually uncontested in his pursuit of a title, which he wins.
  • 1996 – The Ferrari F310 is not suiting to him. But he still dominates and wins at Belgium and Italy.
  • 1997 – Schumacher owns the rain covered tracks at Monaco and Spa. A questionable crash at Jerez has the FIA stripping him of championship inclusion that year.
  • 1998 – Shumacher nets a pair of wins. He fails to win the title at Suzuka due to a tire puncture.
  • 1999 – A crash ends his championship hopes. He helps his teammate win it with a stunning move for the ages in Japan.
  • 2000 – Shumacher teams up with Rubens Barrichello, wins first three races of the year. After crashes in later races, he wins the final four of the year, netting the title.
  • 2001-1 – Ferrari and Schumacher dominate the season. F2002 helps him set a record by winning the title with six races left on the docket.

  • 2011 – Schumacher returns with Mercedes for a miss and hit second season with the team.

My Race Car Drivers Legends of Racing: Juan Manuel Fangio

If you ask any Formula One enthusiast who was – historically speaking – the most famous F1 driver of all time, most would respond by telling that it’s: Juan Manuel Fangio. This driver would race in seven aggressive seasons, and would only miss one due to a nearly fatal accident he was involved in. Fangio is a very unique driver, and one of the few who has won multiple championships with different teams. In fact, Fangio won the title five times and with four different teams in his unrelenting pursuit of Formula One glory. Join us today as we celebrate one the most famous drivers in F1 of all time.

Some called him the “aging genius” because he won his fifth title at the age of 46, back in 1957. During that time, he was old enough to be the father of most of the other drivers on the track. Considering that Fangio grew up in a remote region of Argentina, his humble upbringing had him crediting his parents for his efficacy and dire commitment to honesty and moral ethics; something he was greatly revered for in professional racing.

Born on June 24, 1911, when he was 11-years-old Fangio would first start working on cars. He also started racing in the South American long distance races when he was in his teens. At the age of 38, he pursued professional racing in Europe. Fangio’s experience with long distance racing on no budget, combined with his innovative mechanical skills, would prove to be what propelled him into the record books during the infancy of Formula One.

His greatest win would come during the last year he raced as a pro: the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. Mike Hawthorn and his Ferrari would prove to be no match for Fangio and his Maserati. Fangio would climb back into the race after dropping 51 seconds behind to take home the win and his fifth and final title.

Green Flag on the Environment – Race Car Drivers, NASCAR Help Promote a Healthier Environment

Is your favorite my race car drivers going green? The entire Roush Fenway Team is basically a green team now. Brian Vickers has a green powered car. In fact, ever since 2008 – when the NASCAR Green Innovation was created and tasked with making the sport greener – a lot of positive changes have paved the way for NASCAR and its road to a brighter future for our planet.

Teams are recycling old cars and chassis’ to go green. For example, up until last year, the Roush Fenway Racing just junked old car bodies and unused parts … in the dumpster, where they ultimately would end up gracing a landfill. But not anymore. The shop started recycling parts last year and managed to reuse about 21,000 pounds of plastic and about 105,000 pounds of metal, as opposed to them being junked wastefully.

“Our engineers are talking about how do things cleaner, better, lighter, faster,” said Ian Prince the chief sustainability officer for Roush Fenway Racing’s shop in NC.

Fenway Setting Example for Teams, Drivers, Fans the Sport

“The benefit that NASCAR has is they have a wonderful platform with a huge audience to convey this message. There’s no way NASCAR or Roush or you or anybody singlehandedly has a direct impact, but if people start to see it at the track, and at the shops, then it’s OK. This is real. Maybe I should be recycling this Coke bottle and buying this next-gen oil. It’s an exposure tool. It’s doing the right thing for the right reason,” Prince said.

Progress So Far

  • Introduction of ethanol reduces fossil fuel burning by nearly 10%; about 50,000 gallons fewer burned per year.
  • Green-fueled, mobile recycling rigs helped reuse more than 12 million bottles in 2012.
  • Fuel safety containers prevented spills and contain fumes.
  • 4,000 trees were planted by NASCAR last year to help reduce carbon dioxide.
  • Teams and drivers are going green in different ways, like the Roush Fenway team has.
  • Ongoing social outreach projects helped more fans go green.

Going green is important to 90% of NASCAR fans according to recent surveys.

ROOKIE My Race Car Drivers to Watch: Jeb Burton Shows He’s Got Licks in NASCAR Camping Series in Wowing Debut

For Jeb Burton, son of Ward Burton – five time winner in what is now called the Sprint Cup Series – his life has pretty much always been about racing at the highest level. Of course, he was generally the son on the sidelines trying to help his father out. But Martinsville, and his qualifying attempt there, put him in the hot seat to enjoy a career first: a spot on the pro circuit for the Camping World Truck series as a rookie my race car driver to watch.

As part of the transitioning process, Jeb has been working with esteemed crew chief, Trip Bruce. It all paid off in spades at Martinsville on April 2nd, where Jeb Burton would get his first NASCAR start and first top-15 finish.

Jeb started in go-karts at 12-years-old, then progressed to motocross before delving into limited late models, late models and now trucks.

“You have to learn to kind of sit back and watch, be not as involved,” Bruce said of Jeb’s debut at Martinsville.

“You know, I was always nervous before a practice session or qualifying as a driver, but nowhere near as much as he is standing here watching Jeb do it,” said Ward of his son.

During his rookie debut, Jeb posted an impressive 13-place finish, and did not cause any wrecks. But his mother and father were worried sick about their son’s well-being the entire time.

“On his first go kart race, the first lap he made, my chest.” Burton’s father recalled of his son’s first racing experience. “I don’t know if I can take this. I feel like I’m going to have a heart attack.”

A late race crash that involved five different drivers took Jeb out for a bit. But he climbed back into contention quickly and uninjured.

Tabitha, Ward’s wife, remembers how it felt to be the one watching her husband, and now her son. “And I said, ‘Welcome to my world. This is what it’s like. Wait until he’s in a car and someone’s wrecking him. You want to kill somebody,’” she said.”

Like Father Like Son, Loving Mother Cajoles Jed’s Knack for Racing

“I feel like I was pretty graceful throughout Ward’s career,” recalled Jeb’s mother, Tabitha Ward to the press prior to his debut at Martinsville. “I don’t think I embarrassed myself but maybe a couple of times, but with Jeb, I get furious,” she said, speaking of when another driver causes problems for her son. “We were somewhere and someone wrecked Jeb, and we were both on top of the trailer and I said (to Ward), ‘Go get him!’, and he said, ‘I’m trying to get down!’”

Jeb Burton is set to make four more appearances in the Truck Series this year in a sponsorship deal he worked out with State Water Heaters.
